Man & Biosphere Health (MABH)
Man & Biosphere Health is a multidisciplinary research environment at Kristianstad University. Our research focuses on the interplay between human impacts on ecosystems, ecosystem functioning and biodiversity, and human health and well-being.
Man & Biosphere Health focuses on the relationship between human populations and ecosystems. We study human impact on ecosystems from different societal activities, and how these activities may affect human health and wellbeing and the services that ecosystems provide. Members of our group are also involved in management programs and development of new technology to mitigate effects of human activities.
Our research environment directly connects to the UNESCO concept Man and the Biosphere within which human populations are considered an integrated part of the ecosystems. Studies of "social-ecological systems" require research at the interface between science and society. Development of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research projects is therefore an important part of our strategic development as a group.
Much of our research is highly relevant for society, and communicating our work into policy and sustainable development remains an important goal.
Our research includes substantial international collaboration and local studies within the UNESCO biosphere reserve Kristianstad Vattenrike.
