Timurs Umans
Associate Professor (Docent) in Business Administration, with emphasis on Corporate Governance
Originally Timurs come from Riga, Latvia. He came to Sweden as a Master student in January 2002, and after successful completion of the dissertation att HKR he was offered a possibility to write a doctoral dissertation under supervision of Prof. Sven-Olof Collin (Linnaeus University) who was later joined by the other two supervisors Rikard Larsson (Lund University) and Håkan Pihl (Kristianstad/Lund Universities). He received his PhD in Business Administration in 2012 from Lund University, his PhD dissertation was titled the "The Bottom Line of Cultural Diversity at the Top. Administrative duties
Timurs is a permanent member of the HKR Research Committee as well as serves as a Head of Business Administration with responsibility for the subject area development.
Teaching
Timurs is course responsible and examiner for master thesis courses in three tracks of the Business Program: International Business and Marketing, Accounting and Auditing, Banking and Finance. Timurs has been awarded the title of a Merited Educator by the HKR rector upon recommendation from the externally recruited reviewers.
Research
Corporate Governance/Auditing/Top Management Team/Diversity Management
Timurs is an active member of European Accounting Association, European International Business Association as well as Academy of Management. He serves on editorial board of Baltic Journal of Management and reviews for number of top journals within the field of International Business and Marketing.
After receiving his PhD, Timurs has been doing research on interaction between board of directors and top management team, he also continues to explore diversity in top management teams and its outcomes, with specific emphasis on ambidexterity. Timurs is also doing research on commercialization of auditing practices as well as well-being of professionals (auditors included).
Internally funded projects
Together with Pernilla Broberg and Elin Smith, Timurs is leading education development project titled "High quality in bachelor and master theses – what is needed in terms of supervision and examination?" that has received financing from HKR. Project is being launched in September 2015 and is planned to be finished in January 2017
Together with Annika Fjelkner, Timurs is leading educational development project exploring how composition of students groups affects group processes and in turn affects achievement of learning outcomes and development of generic skills within Work Integrated Learning module within Business Program at HKR. The project was launched in May 2015 and is planned to be finished in December 2015.
Externally funded research projects
Together with Johanna Sylvander (HKR/LiU) and Karl Wennberg (HKR/HHS), Timurs is leading a project exploring Multicultural top management teams in Swedish stock listed corporations. The project receives funding from Torsten Söderberg Foundation. Duration of the project is from July 2015 until June 2017.
Together with Sven-Olof Collin (LNU), Timurs is leading a project exploring cultural diversity in professional teams of nurses, teachers and auditors and its performance effects. The project received financing from Crafoord Foundation. Duration of the project is from January 2016 until December 2018.
Since October 2014 Timurs occupies part time post-doc position at School of Business and Economics, Linnaeus University.
