Research projects in human genetics
My research is made within the framework of the research environment "Biomedicine" at Kristianstad University. I work together with Ass. Prof. Christina Lind-Halldén and Prof. Torbjörn Säll (Lund University) in most of my projects. We have three PhD students, Viktor Henmyr, Erik Manderstedt, Pernilla Lindahl, and one postdoc, Daniel Carlberg, in our research group. Since many years.
I am primarily interested in the identification and characterization of disease-causing genes and mutations. Such mutations can be single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) or copy number polymorphisms (CNPs), they can be reasonably common in the population or they can be rare. We search for such mutations using a number of different techniques such as long-range PCR, quantitative PCR, MLPA and Sanger and next generation DNA sequencing. The ultimate goal of many of these projects is to develop diagnostic systems for the identification of disease-causing mutations. The research is made in collaboration with a number of clinical scientists.
Koagulation and anti-koagulation projects in cooperation with Prof. Rolf Ljung (Factor 8 and 9; Lund University), Prof. Stefan Lethagen (von Willebrand factor; Lund University and Sobi, Stockholm),Prof. Björn Dahlbäck and Bengt Zöller (Protein S; Lund University). The goal of all of these projects is to identify the underlying genes and mutations, describe the mutational mechanisms and develop diagnostic systems for all mutations of these diseases.
Allergic rhinitis projects with Prof. Lars-Olaf Cardell, Karolinska Institute. The aims of these projects are to identify, validate and characterize risk factors associated with allergic rhinitis.
Prostate cancer projects with Professor Hans Lilja, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The aim is to identify and characterize genes involved in the initiation and development of prostate cancer with particular attention to the development of prognostic systems.
