Lena B-M Vought
Senior Lecturer in Ecological Engineering, PhD (Docent i akvatisk ekoteknik)
Dr. Vought is a Senior Scientist with over 25 years of active research and consulting in the field of fresh water ecosystem health assessment and management. She has managed more than 10 key research grants addressing issues from development of biological indicators to integrated analyses of floodplains dynamics, at both national and international levels.
Over the last 10 years, her research has focused on "soft engineering" relating to design and management of urban stormwater ponds, root zone system for polishing sewage water, and restoration measures for streams and large rivers. She has been one of the principal investigators of a 6 years European Union sponsored research project studying the role and importance of riparian wetlands along 7 large rivers of Europe, and involving research groups from Britain, France, Italy, Romania, Sweden and Switzerland (the ERMAS project). This project has led to an other European Union supported project called RIVFUNCTION, where she is now coordinating the Southern-Swedish team participation in developing and disseminating a methodology for assessing the functional component of ecological river quality status. This research is done in collaboration with Universities of France, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden (Kristianstad and Umeå), Switzerland and the UK.
She is also co-investigator in a research project entitled "Adaptive Environmental Assessment & Management Approach in establishing multifunctional solutions to stormwater management" conducted in Lao PDR with the support of a grant from the Department for Research Cooperation (SAREC) of the Swedish International Development Assistance (SIDA).
Finally, Dr. Vought is a work package team-leader in the European Union's Asia-Link Programme co-financed project "CITYBLUES: practical implementation of ecological and engineering principles in integrated stormwater management" done in collaboration with Universities from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand and the UK. Both projects are coordinated by Dr. Jean O. Lacoursière, also from the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Kristianstad University.
