Examination guidelines

To ensure good order and to prevent cheating or disruptive behavior during written examinations, the following guidelines apply. The guidelines will be communicated to students by the invigilator before each examination session. Anyone taking a written examination is responsible for keeping themselves informed of the current examination guidelines.

1. Students taking an examination must follow the instructions provided by the invigilator and sit in the seat assigned to them.
2. Outerwear, bags and pencil cases may not be brought to the examination seat and must instead be stored in a location specified by the invigilator.
3. Mobile phones, wireless headphones, watches (both analogue and digital) and other technical equipment may not be brought to the examination seat. Where applicable, such equipment must be switched off. For permitted aids, see item 11.
4. Students are permitted to bring light snacks and beverages, which must be placed where they are clearly visible at the examination seat. Nuts may not be brought into the examination room.
5. When several different examinations are taking place in the same examination room, examination-takers are responsible for ensuring that they have received the correct examination paper.
6. Examinations begin at the scheduled time. Students who have registered for the examination but arrive late may only be admitted during a second admission, 30 minutes after the examination has begun. This will also apply to Inspera examinations once the University has established the necessary procedures and informed students and staff that late admission is possible.
7. Examination-takers may not leave the examination room during the first 45 minutes of the examination. For examinations lasting 60 minutes, students may leave the room after 30 minutes. This also applies to students who intend to submit a blank examination paper. Only visits to the toilet are permitted during the examination. No other breaks are allowed.
8. To be permitted to take the examination, students must present valid photographic identification before the examination begins and again when submitting their examination. Students who are unable to present valid identification will not be permitted to take the examination.
9. If a student is wearing clothing, such as a veil or other head covering, that makes it difficult to check their identification or verify their identity, the identity check must be carried out in a private room in the presence of two University employees. The employees present must be of the same gender as the student.
10. Silence must be observed throughout the examination. Students may not disturb or communicate with other students.
11. The aids permitted during the examination are stated either on the cover page or on the examination paper. No other aids may be brought to the examination seat. The University provides lined and squared writing paper.
12. Examination-takers may only in exceptional circumstances borrow permitted aids from other examination-takers. Such loans must be facilitated by the invigilator. Calculators may not be borrowed. The University does not provide calculators for students to borrow, except for certain study programmes that provide calculators to all examination-takers during the examination.
13. Suspected cheating or disruptive behavior will be reported and may result in a warning or suspension from the University, with no grade being awarded for the examination. The Vice-Chancellor handles cases concerning suspected cheating. Decisions regarding suspension are made by the Disciplinary Board.
14. All examination-takers must stop writing when the examination time has ended. No additional time is permitted.
15. No writing paper, whether used or unused, may be removed from the examination room. Any unused writing paper must be handed to the invigilator. The invigilator may permit writing paper relating to an examination in drug calculation to be removed from the examination room.

Validity: The guidelines take effect on 8 september 2026 and replaces Version 1 of the Examination Guidelines. Please note that the provisions concerning late admission to Inspera examinations will only apply once the University has confirmed that the necessary procedures are in place.
