Transfer of credits
Have you previously completed courses or acquired knowledge and skills through professional experience that you consider equivalent to parts of the education you are currently pursuing at Kristianstad University? If so, you may apply to have your prior education and/or professional experience recognised for credit transfer.
The University will recognise prior studies provided that there are no substantial differences between those studies and the education against which they are assessed. Professional experience may also be recognised, provided that the knowledge and skills acquired correspond, in essence, to the learning outcomes required in the course or programme for which credit transfer is sought.
The applicable regulations and the procedures governing the handling of applications are outlined in the document Process Guidelines for Credit Transfer (pdf, 248 kB).
When can I apply for credit transfer?
You may apply for credit transfer once you are a student, that is, when you have been admitted to and are enrolled in a programme or course at Kristianstad University.
Credit transfer is not applicable to foundation year studies, as such preparatory education does not confer higher education credits. Only prior studies or experience that can be considered equivalent to higher education may be assessed for credit transfer in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance.
How do I apply for credit transfer?
Prior to submitting an application, the University recommends that you contact a study and career counsellor for guidance and information regarding potential consequences of a credit transfer.
Applications are submitted via Ladok for students.
What documents must I attach to my application?
To enable assessment of your application, you must provide documentation of your prior studies and/or professional experience. The following documents must be submitted:
For prior studies:
- A copy of your transcript of records or certificate of completed studies
- The course syllabus, including reading list, from the semester in which the course(s) were taken.
- Independent project (degree project/thesis or equivalent), if relevant to the application.
- Laboratory report, if relevant to the application.
- Certificate for education other than that obtained at a Swedish higher education institution, including information on the course/programme and date of completion, signed and dated by a representative of the institution.
- Official Transcript of Records for foreign higher education, including the name of the institution, course titles, dates of completion, level, credit scope and grades, as well as information on the grading system; the document must be stamped and signed by the issuing institution.
For professional experience:
If you are applying for credit transfer based on professional experience, you must provide a detailed description of the knowledge and skills acquired and explain how these correspond to the intended learning outcomes of the course. Wherever possible, the description must be supported by certificates, diplomas, or similar documentation.
Certificates of employment must include:
- employer and contact details of your immediate supervisor
- duration of employment
- extent of employment (percentage of full-time)
- description of work duties.
How does credit transfer affect student finance?
It is your responsibility to check with the Swedish Board of Student Finance (CSN) whether your student finance will be affected: www.csn.se.
What if I wish to withdraw my application?
If you wish to withdraw your application, you must do so before a decision has been made. Withdrawal can be made via telephone or email.
A decision on credit transfer that has been communicated and is in accordance with your application cannot be withdrawn at your request, as it constitutes a favourable administrative decision.
When and how will I receive a decision?
Processing times vary depending on the individual case, but should normally not exceed two months from the date a complete application has been received by the University. An application is considered complete once all required documentation has been submitted.
You can follow your case in Ladok, and you will be notified by email once a decision has been made.
How will my teacher be informed?
You are responsible for presenting the decision to your teacher.
Additional information
No grades are awarded in connection with credit transfer, as it is not an examination but an administrative decision. The academic performance has already been graded by the examining institution. Credit transfer is recorded as “TG” in Ladok.
