Digital Examination in Inspera
Inspera Assessment is Kristianstad University's service for conducting digital examinations. Here you can read more about the preparations you need to make before taking a digital examination.
It is the course instructor who determines how an examination will be conducted, as indicated in the examination registration in Kronox. If you are unsure, please contact your course instructor.
When the course instructor chooses a digital examination in Inspera as the method of assessment, you, as a student, need to prepare by reading, understanding, and following the necessary preparations for the examination.
Teachers create examination questions in Inspera with accompanying digital resources, such as web pages, audio files, or PDF files, and you, as a student, answer the questions using your personal computer or a borrowed computer in a computer labs with a secure browser on the examination day.
Your examination in Inspera is assessed anonymously
Examinations written in Inspera Assessment will be assessed anonymously by teachers. When you register for the examination, you will receive a unique anonymity code for your examination session.
What happens at a digital examination in Inspera?
A digital examination in Inspera is taken on your own computer or on a pre-booked borrowed computer. Your computer should be a PC or Mac that is no more than five years old with the operating system Windows 10 or macOS 11, or newer.
You log in to Inspera using your regular login credentials provided by the university (HKR Login) and open the examination session. This opens a secure browser that locks the computer to display only the examination content. You answer the questions, and after submission, the secure browser is unlocked. When the examination is graded, the results and any feedback from the teacher are published in Inspera. You can view your grade in Ladok.
You must always register at least 14 working days before a scheduled examination to participate in a digital examination, and you register through Kronox. There is no waiting list, so if you do not register in time, you will have to take the examination at the next available opportunity. To register, you must be enrolled in the course, and the registration period must be open.
To take a digital examination on your own computer, you need to ensure that the wireless network Eduroam is configured, and the secure web browser Safe Exam Browser is installed on the computer you plan to use. Safe Exam Browser is pre-installed on the computers available to borrow.
Follow the preparations in the following order:
- Set up Eduroam
- Installation Safe Exam Browser To download Safe Exam Browser and ensure that your computer is working before the exam, you have the option to complete an installation module in Canvas, for which your teacher will provide instructions. If you do not succeed, you will have the opportunity to do this in a classroom with an Inspera administrator. The course coordinator will inform you about the time and place on the Canvas page. It is important that you participate in this!
- Check your HKR Login login credentials Ensure that you can remember your username and password for your HKR Login. If you need to change your password, you can find instructions here: Login information for the university's IT resources. Consider changing your password to something easy to remember. If you do not know your username and password when you are in the examination room, you may be unable to complete your examination.
If you lack your own computer or discover during the demo examination that Inspera is not working, you can book a borrowed computer. You can book a borrowed computer by completing the form Book a computer for the digital exam.
Necessary preparations
It's essential to be well-prepared for a digital examination, and below, you can see what you need to prepare and bring to the examination session.
Digital examination with your own computer
- Your own computer and charger.
- Eduroam configured.
- Safe Exam Browser installed.
- Completed the demo examination and ensured that your computer works with Inspera.
- Login credentials - username and password for your HKR Login.
- Valid photo identification.
- Any allowed aids.
Digital examination with a pre-booked borrowed computer
- Book a computer for the digital exam. (the computer will be picked up in the examination room).
- Some examinations will take place in a computer lab
- Login credentials - username and password for your HKR Login.
- Valid photo identification.
- Any allowed aids.

Conducting the examination
You should arrive at the correct examination room at least 30 minutes before the examination starts. Examination supervisors will request identification when you arrive and then direct you to your seat.
- Test your equipment and connect your battery charger if necessary.
- Connect to Eduroam.
- Log in to the examination via hkr.inspera.com. Use your HKR Login.
- Enter the password for Safe Exam Browser (unique for each examination session).
- Wait until you receive permission to start the examination.
When you are finished, raise your hand, and an examination supervisor will come to perform an additional ID check related to your screen.
- End the examination.
- Close Safe Exam Browser.
- Leave the examination room.
