Student insurance
Although we hope that you will stay healthy during your time in Sweden, you still need to think about what will happen if you have an accident or get sick. Therefore it is of great importance that you have a valid health insurance while you are here.
The emergency telephone number in Sweden is 112.
If you are a nonexchange student who is required to pay tuition fees for your studies at Kristianstad University you are covered by the personal injury insurance for students.
The insurance, FAS is provided free of charge via Kammarkollegiet and provides coverage in Sweden for:
- disability and death benefits
- medical and dental care
- home transport
- third party liability
- legal expenses.
The Insurance does not apply to:
- If you are in your home country.
This insurance provides coverage during the entire study period as well as two weeks before the start of studies and two weeks after the end of your studies.
Always save the medical certificate from the doctor and the receipt for your expenses.
You must be registered as a student at Kristianstad University to be covered by the insurance.

Exchange students at Kristianstad University are covered by a group insurance for students. The insurance applies to all foreign exchange students who have been accepted and who are actively involved in higher education or graduate studies at the university or college. Exchange student entails a student who studies or practices in Sweden in accordance with an exchange or acceptance agreement between the Swedish educational institution and a foreign educational institution.
The insurance, Student IN is provided free of charge via Kammarkollegiet and provides coverage in Sweden:
- disability and death benefits
- medical and dental care
- home transport
- personal property coverage
- third party liability
- legal expenses.
The insurance applies during the education period in accordance with the actual semester dates they are registered as well as two weeks prior to the start of studies and two weeks after the end of studies. The insurance applies twenty-four hours a day in Sweden only.

How to make a report and file a claim
You should fill out an Injury Report as soon as possible.
After you've successfully filled out your claim, visit the Reception in building 7, whom will sign it and certify that you are registered as a student at the University. The Injury Report is then sent to Kammarkollegiet. If you have any questions regarding the form or need help filling it out, you are welcome to contact the Reception at student@hkr.se.

Health insurance – Nordic and EU/EEA citizens
If you are a citizen of any of the Nordic or EU/EEA countries you have access to public medical services if you register beforehand at a social insurance office in your home country and obtain a European Health Insurance card.
You need to bring the card with you when seeking medical attention in Sweden. If you do not have the card with you, you may have to pay the whole treatment by yourself. In order to be able to claim back the money you have paid, you should always ask for a written diagnosis including a stamp, of the physician or hospital.
Home insurance
All people living in Sweden need an insurance that covers third party liability and loss of your belongings in or outside of your room/apartment. Make sure this is covered for your stay.
Your home university or your home insurance company might be able to give you information concerning home insurance abroad. If you cannot find any information regarding this at your home university - you should purchase insurance with third-party liability of your own choice.
Kristianstad University Student Health Service
All students at Kristianstad University have access to the student health professionals. The staff at the student health service work primarily with problems that are related with your studies - when you need to consult a doctor please turn to a public hospital or clinic.
