I’m a huge fan of computer games!
Xujia Zhou, 33 years old, is attending her third year at the bachelor programme in Computer Sciences at Kristianstad University. However, she started her studies in a whole different field.
Back in Beijing, China, she had already obtained a master in literature. But when she moved to Sweden to join her husband, she decided to invest in her great interest in technology. First, she hesitated to apply for Kristianstad University. Being a small university in a strange city, maybe the standard wouldn't be high enough?
–But once I had started, I found out that the teachers were dedicated and that the school offered a really high quality of education. That was amazing!
She also appreciates the way teachers turn theory into practice with numerous lab projects and group works.
–We have a good collaboration between the students, regardless of age and gender. There is a high respect for individualism, which suits me well.
Xujia Zhou puts a lot of effort in her full time studies, and she also works part time as a developer at an IT consulting company in Lund. However, she has some time left for her big interest:
–I play computer and board games with my friends. We are all geeks with the same interest, whatever origin.
During these years, she has learned to appreciate a lot of elements in the Swedish society and the opportunity to mix them with those from her own origin.
–But don't worry, you don't have to love köttbullar – you can easily buy ingredients in Asian store to cook Chinese food!
