"The program has prepared me for multi-professional collaboration"
Sarah Forsberg, a former chef who transitioned into becoming a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in food and meal science, chose the master’s programme in health sciences at Kristianstad University driven by her passion for public meals and meals for older adults.
What factors influenced your decision to pursue studies at Kristianstad University?
– My positive impression of the university and the flexibility of online lectures while working influenced my decision.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of your studies?
– Going from the field of food and meals science to the field of health science was challenging at first as it was a new academic language and I had to frame all the assignments to better fit my perspective as a gastronome. It was frustrating at first, however, I feel it helped me connect the two fields of science into a larger context which was essential for me to see the full picture. This gave me a better understanding of my role as a gastronome in the future.
The programme prepared Sarah for multi-professional collaboration, valuable in her future career. The knowledge she gained has been crucial for her future studies of finger foods for older adults.
– The programme offered knowledge of strategic management and multi-professional work, important for a meal manager role.
“Thanks to my master's degree, I was able to apply for a Ph.D. position.”
– Because of my Master´s degree I was able to apply for a PhD position and be enrolled at University of Copenhagen. Also, the purpose of my PhD was to develop finger foods for older adults who are unable to eat with knife and fork due to diseases such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. The work required both knowledge of food and meal science and health sciences. Moreover, the knowledge I obtained will be important for future implementation and intervention studies of finger foods.
