Ronja is building a career in auditing and sustainability

When Ronja Persson began the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration specialising in Accounting and Auditing at Kristianstad University, a master's degree was not part of her original plan. But after completing her bachelor's degree, she decided to continue her studies – a decision she has not regretted.

Portrait of Ronja Persson

– I enjoy studying and developing my skills, and I saw the master's programme as a challenge. The pace was higher than at bachelor's level, and studying in English was more demanding too, but it was also very rewarding.

Continuing her studies at Kristianstad University felt like a natural choice. Ronja already knew and appreciated the teachers, the way the programme was structured and the study environment. She also liked the programme's focus on sustainability and the opportunity to work on projects connected to professional practice.

Finding her focus in sustainability

Sustainability reporting is one area that has become particularly important to Ronja. During the master's programme, she had the opportunity to deepen her knowledge of the regulations and requirements surrounding corporate sustainability reporting.

– I wanted to learn more about sustainability reporting, and that was also one of the reasons I chose the programme. I now feel that I have a really good understanding of the field and of the requirements that companies need to meet.

The programme's connection to professional practice was another valuable part of her studies. In one project, Ronja and her group worked with a large company, exploring how the organisation approached sustainability issues.

"We were a great mix of people from different backgrounds."

For Ronja, the programme has been about more than gaining specialist knowledge. Studying in English, giving regular presentations and working alongside students from different parts of the world have helped her grow both professionally and personally.

– We were a great mix of people from different backgrounds. I feel much more confident using English now, and I have developed a lot socially as well. We also had plenty of opportunities to practise giving presentations. It could be challenging at times, but it was incredibly valuable.

Working towards a career in auditing

After graduating in June, Ronja is now ready for the next step. This autumn, she will begin working in auditing at a local accounting and auditing firm. Looking further ahead, she has a clear goal: to become an authorised auditor and, ideally, combine auditing with her expertise in sustainability.

– My main goal is to become an authorised auditor. I would also like to work with sustainability-related assignments. I think my knowledge in this area will give me an advantage, as I have already had the opportunity to specialise and feel confident with the relevant regulations.

"I would definitely recommend it. You will develop regardless of the direction you choose to take afterwards."

For anyone considering the master's programme, Ronja's advice is simple: take the opportunity.

– I would definitely recommend it. You will develop regardless of the direction you choose to take afterwards, and you gain knowledge you might not even have realised you needed. The teachers are committed and genuinely want to help. When they believe in you, you start believing in yourself too.

And if she had to sum up the programme in three words?

– Inspiring, challenging and incredibly rewarding.
