Research area
Food and Meal Sciences in preschool: Meal Education
Meal education is a new area of research. In the past, food and meals in the educational work in preschool was as an important part of the pedagogical activity from a care perspective, but also as an opportunity for children to learn concepts, develop language, concentration and coordination, and develop motor skills. Today it is not as common, but food and meals is seen mostly as a routine situation. But despite the food and the meal's role in preschool has shifted over the years, it has always played a central part in preschool. The teachers are expected to have the necessary skills in everything from the importance of good hygiene to their own role as a role model at mealtime. The teachers are also expected to have knowledge of good food for children and often get questions from parents about food and meals. My interest is to investigate how food and meals can be used in the educational activities to achieve the objectives of the preschool curriculum and the national public health and environmental goals.
