Joakim Thelander
I am a Ph.D. in Sociology and Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Kristianstad University. I am also Head of Subject and teach both these subjects at the university.
My research interests are broad and varied, and I have among other things studied financial crimes and corruption, crime reporting in the mass media, and documentation within the social services and health care. I am trained as a journalist and have written a large number of popular science articles for Allt om Historia and Populär Historia on widely varying subjects such as mobster Al Capone, the Titanic disaster, notorious historic crimes, and the history of mental care in Sweden.
My ongoing research projects include a study of organizational meetings in the public sector in Sweden (together with professor Malin Åkerström of Lund University) and a study of online gaming and the phenomenon of toxicity (various kinds of aggressiveness/inappropriate behaviour), focusing on the FPS game Overwatch. As a teacher I participate in the University Network of Criminology in Sweden (UNCS).
