Doctor of Philosophy in Information Society
My background is in computer science, psychology, and education studies, which earned me a teaching degree for upper secondary school. Following this, I became interested in the intersection between information technology and psychology, which led me to pursue a master's degree in psychology at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Subsequently, this propelled me towards the doctoral programme in Information Society at Stockholm University where I explored the interaction between these two fields in the context of democratic engagement.
My doctoral dissertation, titled "Co-creating democracy: Conceptualizing co-creative media to facilitate democratic engagement in society," adopted a concept-driven design research approach to propose a concept of co-creative media. Co-creative media seeks to broaden citizens' democratic engagement by means of creating virtual spaces in which new ideas, initiatives, knowledge, solutions, and digital tools could emerge.
The focus of my research is on co-creation, participatory processes, ICTs for democracy, and concept-driven design. Also, I contribute to the field of education by conducting research and publishing textbooks related to the use of social media for learning, the application of co-coding when teaching web development, and the practical implementation of websites and mobile applications through various markup and programming languages.
