Local regulation and guidelines
Kristianstad University has regulations for fee-paying students (decision no. 2024-114-651), which describe the conditions for students who are required to pay tuition fees to be granted scholarships and what applies in connection with the obligation to make repayments. Alongside these, there are local guidelines (decision no. 2025-114-6) in accordance with decisions on regulations.
The decisions are translated into English below.
Kristianstad University’s regulation on scholarships for fee-paying students (decision no. 2024-114-651)
Kristianstad University stipulates the following pursuant to the Ordinance (2010:718) on scholarships for students required to pay tuition fees:
Conditions for students who are required to pay tuition fees to be granted a scholarship
- The applicant must be a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland.
- The student must meet the entry requirements for the programme at the start of the semester.
- The student must accept their place, otherwise the scholarship will be forfeited and can be offered to another student or saved for the following semester.
- The scholarship is only valid for the semester and programme when the student applies for the programme, i.e. students who are granted a deferment or leave from studies and who have been granted a scholarship cannot transfer the scholarship to another semester.
- Students who do not meet the requirements for progression to the next semester are not deemed to have achieved satisfactory study results, and will not therefore have their scholarship extended.
- In those cases where only part of the tuition fee is covered by the scholarship, the student is obliged to pay the remainder of the tuition fee in accordance with Kristianstad University’s regulations.
- Students who have been granted a scholarship but who do not receive a residence permit will lose their scholarship.
- Students who apply for a scholarship for studies at first-cycle level must be admitted to a programme at Kristianstad University and must have studied at least two semesters at Kristianstad University.
Repayment obligation
If a student has been granted a scholarship but is no longer required to pay fees, the student is not entitled to the part of the scholarship remaining for continued studies. This also applies in the event of non-completion of studies.
A student who, in accordance with Chapter 10 of the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), is suspended or receives a warning loses their scholarship and is thus obliged to pay for the remaining part of their education. This payment obligation applies from the date on which a decision is made by the Disciplinary Board.
The university may decide that a student who has received a partial scholarship and who does not pay the remainder of their tuition fee on time will lose their scholarship.
Local guidelines at Kristianstad University for scholarships to fee-paying students (decision no. 2025-114-6)
Background
Kristianstad University has regulations for fee-paying students (reg. no. 2024-114-651), which describe the conditions for students who are required to pay tuition fees to be granted scholarships and what applies in connection with the obligation to make repayments. Alongside these, there are local guidelines in accordance with decisions on regulations. These local guidelines are detailed below.
Scholarships
The Scholarships Group
Kristianstad University has a Scholarships Group with the primary task of nominating scholarship recipients. Ahead of each academic year, the Scholarships Group decides whether full or partial scholarships should be awarded and then nominates scholarship recipients based on the criteria stated in the guidelines.
The Scholarships Group may also suggest any necessary revisions to the guidelines, which are then decided on by the Vice-Chancellor.
The Scholarships Group is composed of the responsible manager in accordance with the Rules of Procedure (convener), the Programme Directors for all campus-based programme taught in English, a representative from International Relations, and a representative from the Admissions Office with experience of assessing foreign study grades and tuition fees. Both the responsible manager and the Programme Directors can appoint others to represent them in the Scholarships Group.
Decisions on scholarships
Formal decisions on allocating scholarships are made for each scholarship programme/equivalent by the responsible manager in accordance with the applicable Rules of Procedure. These decisions cannot be delegated to anyone else.
The scope of the scholarship
The scope of the scholarship may vary with time, and may be affected by the funds available and the number of applicants. The scope may also vary depending on the scholarship programme/equivalent to which it applies.
Scholarships only cover tuition fees, and do not cover accommodation costs or other associated costs. There are no scholarships for family members.
Scholarships cover all or part of tuition fees. They are not paid in cash, and are instead deducted from fees for the semester.
Scholarships for the autumn semester are automatically extended so that they also apply for the spring semester, provided that the student achieves satisfactory study results. This will be decided on by the relevant Programme Director or the Programme Director’s representative.
Allocation of scholarships
Regardless of the scholarship programme/equivalent, the Scholarships Group must take the University’s strategy and the needs of the programmes into account when making nominations. This may vary with time, and current prioritisations should be formulated at the nomination meeting and stated in the decision-making documentation.
Prioritisations may relate to aspects such as gender, country, training programmes and strategic investments in external partners, for example.
Scholarships can be allocated ahead of both the autumn and spring semesters, and may relate to different groups of student. Ahead of the autumn semester, the objective is to contribute towards more new students beginning studies at Kristianstad University, while the objective for the spring semester – provided that sufficient scholarship funds are available – is to reward existing students with good academic qualifications.
Criteria
Ahead of the autumn semester – and in addition to the above – the following are prioritised:
- Applicants who have applied to Kristianstad University in the first instance, and on time.
- Applicants for campus-based programmes at second-cycle level that are taught in English.
- Applicants who have previously studied at or are currently studying at Kristianstad University.
- Applicants with good academic qualifications.
Ahead of the spring semester, the following are prioritised:
- Applicants in semester 1 from the master’s programmes taught in English on campus.
- Applicants in semester 5 from bachelor’s programmes/equivalent taught in English.
- Applicants with good academic qualifications.
