LDN Conference November 11-12, 2021
Kristianstad University and The Network for Literature Didactics (Litteraturdidaktiskt nätverk) warmly invites you to a conference on the theme Literature Didactics and emotions, November 11–12, 2021 in Kristianstad.
Already in the nineties, the call for "the affective turn" was made within Cultural Studies (Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, Brian Massumi). Today, when we talk about an affective turn within literary didactics, it is mostly, but not only, in regards to the relation between text and reader in a wider context. Current theoretical inspiration can be found in, for example, Rita Felski’s Hooked. Art and Attachment (November 2020).
The conference’s point of departure is in all the possible emotional access points of literature didactics. In what ways is the opposition between factually oriented and experience-oriented readings, and that between the academically analytical versus the personal, emotionally oriented readings best countered or bridged? How is thus, on the one hand, the dichotomy between efferent/aesthetic (Rosenblatt), and on the other, the dichotomy between critical/naive (Miller) alternatively paranoid/reparative (Sedgwick) handled?
How can the role of emotions as creative power for writing as well as reading be studied and approached? How can we work didactically with the literary composition of emotion at tertiary language institutions and within the different school subjects? What happens if we update the role of emotions in relation to the didactic questions of what, who, how, when, and why? How does emotion and reading practices interact in different cultural contexts?
We welcome contributions of research within literature didactics and contributions highlighting practical examples within tertiary and secondary education equally.
Examples of areas contributions may include, but are not limited to:
Emotions &
- eras of literary history
- literary genre
- narrative structure
- multimodal narratives in different media
